Irene Álvarez Caro ingeniera electrónica y automática por la Universidad Carlos III en 2014 construyó su primer robot con 12 años. Irene es fundadora y directora de la Academia de robótica de la Asociación de Robótica de Competición Española (ARCE) donde se dedica a la enseñanza de la robótica y a fomentar el interés en STEAM. ARCE desarrolla talleres y currículos educativos para niñas y niños de 6 a 18 años en programación, robótica y STEAM (Ciencias, Tecnología, Ingeniería, Arte y Matemática).
Irene es autora de uno de los últimos libros que llegó a las estanterías de la ETSIDI en 2019, “Introducción a la robótica: adéntrate en robótica con VEX IQ y VEX EDR” o 681.5 ALV int, el número que te permite localizar este libro en la sala. En él la autora expone una metodología propia de enfoque práctico y activo en la que combina teoría, proyectos y ejercicios para practicar. El contenido se estructura en cuatro apartados: conocimientos básicos de ingeniería y proceso de diseño utilizado en ingeniería industrial, y los tres apartados que hacen referencia a las partes que conforman un robot: mecánica, electrónica y programación.
