Brief description of the project
The COViD-19 crisis has shown in Madrid that one of the most vulnerable population groups are the elderly. The elderly have experienced how their mobility has been reduced, first, by the confinement stage; and, subsequently, social distancing requirements. Mobility is a fundamental premise for the well-being of the elderly, and it has been shown that it increases health benefits, increases longevity and promotes social integration, avoiding isolation. This project aims to promote and know in detail the active mobility of the elderly in Madrid through a telephone and online accompaniment that will be carried out by a group of students of the ETSI Caminos (UPM). A sample of elderly people will be selected with the help of the Madrid City Council to be informed of the benefits of mobility and avoid social isolation. This sample will be surveyed to know in detail the new demands of this group in terms of mobility: perception of road accident risk, what itineraries it now considers safe to travel on foot, what cultural and sports activities have given up moving due to the pandemic, their level of use of public transport and the use they still make of the private vehicle.
