MOOC Learning Outcome

Hello everyone,

I have completed sucessfully the first MOOC on personal branding. While I was happy with my PLE and don’t feel like I should further improve it, I wanted to highlight a few elements I learned.

First of all, it was nice to have reminders about things I knew before, the importance of having strong passwords, the Myers-Briggs personality types tests and the importance of a numerical presence.

What I discovered was the depth of “personal branding”. I totally ignored that we could define personal board members or mission statement and I will look into it in the future. Overall I found interesting the importance of personal branding for leadership.

Finally, I carried out the suggested personality test but the questions were too few and creative I think a test more developed as the 16 personalities test would be more relevant.

Simon Coen – Digital Identity Plan

Since LinkedIn is the plateform I use the most and the one I rely on the most for my digital identity plan, I decided to present it in a LinkedIn fashion. To make it more concise and readable I decided to group two by two the proposed categories, in the order: Activities+Channel, Content+Value Proposition, Objective+Target, Collaboration+ Resources. It is to me a logical and progessive order to understand to understand what I do, why and then how.

Pesronal Learning Environment

Here is the first version of my PLE. I decided to separate in 4 main sections: Communication, Management, Learning, Creation. Having very different uses in these categories I added subsections for better readability.

In terms of communication, I think everything is quite common and well known, messenger apps such as whatsapp for unformal communication, webmail for formal ones and usual videoconference tools like zoom.

In my learning experience, I realize I need to develop more tools as I mainly rely on Google to provide me information sources although I tend to use Google Scholar more and more. In addition to the specific school websites and moodle, I also learn spontaneously information on other means such as youtube, linkedin, the different Eit Web Pages or the EU Raw Material Information System that I consult often about different raw material, this subcategory is half way in the Creation section I called it inspiration.

When it comes to creation I think the tools I used are quite common and probably offer much more capacities than the ones I use (i.e. Word, PPT, Canva,…). For the ones that don’t know it, I use the LaTeX format on Overleaf (it’s a s a high-quality typesetting system) for most my written report and Canva for slide shows or video editing for a better visual.

Finally, I classified apps in a management category, it is mostly the specific software I use (Matlab, Excel, OpenLCA) along with the organisation and storage apps.

After learning about new applications sites and software from my peers I’ve updated my PLE.

Communication: I was quite happy with the various means of communication I use maybe I should simply rationalize them.

Management: Two apps can be added to my management list: dropbox as I realize I will need extra reliable storage space online and Gannt Chart (project scheduling) that I knew before but too rarely use in projects.

Learning: As I needed more sources for my research, I will start using Research Gate to diversify the information I find, Refworks and Zotero to manage my sources as I relied on LaTeX to do it before.

Creation: on the creative side of things I started using Pocket to increase and save the online content I read as source of inspiration and research and Looka to generate logos.

A Personal Reflexion on Professional Future

When considering my professional future in a very structured way I need to define what job, what field and what type of life I want.

The possibilities I see in terms of job or work are continuing my studies and carry out a PhD, work in a company or create a start-up.

While I would consider a PhD or a startup respectively if I had a promising master’s thesis or startup project, in the near future I see myself working in a company to gain experience. Since I imagine a stable life at home in Belgium, I have reached an agreement with a Belgian company I like in the field of recycling to carry out my internship and figure out if working for them or a similar company is the path I want.

However, having had good result with our innovation project in the Tapojarvi challenge, I will keep an eye on the possibility to keep growing innovative ideas and maybe develop them on the side as investing my whole time in such project wouldn’t bring the stability I seek at the moment.

Simon Coen

I’m Simon Coen, 22, from Belgium.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Geological Engineering from the University of Liège.

In the face of climate and environmental emergencies, the management and recycling of raw materials is essential. This is why I have committed to the AMIR master program.

While topics like recycling, urban mining, raw material sourcing, criticality are of high interest for me, I like to develop intrepreneurial ideas to implement circularity.

Always seeking a new adventure, I like to travel, I have studied one year in the USA and in Portugal. During my free time, I enjoy hiking, doing sports and learning new things.
