Technology serving the most vulnerable members of society

The #RETOMadrID team is visiting local authorities in the Community of Madrid that are interested in training their residents in basic digital skills using Digital Inclusion Points and the #TechPeopleCare methodology.

This innovative methodology, developed at the UPM by the Technology for Development and Cooperation group #TEDECO, has 13 years of experience in various projects across Africa, Latin America and Europe.

Here, Susana Muñoz Hernández, one of its co-founders and director of #RETOMadrID, tells us all about it.

We want to reach every corner of the community. If you’d like your centre to benefit from this project run by the Community of Madrid, please write to us or register here.

A project run by the Community of Madrid in collaboration with the Polytechnic University and funded by the EU’s Next Generation Funds.

RETOMadrID is now available at the Villa del Prado Library

The #RETOMadrID Digital Inclusion Hub is now up and running at the Villa del Prado Municipal Library, with the help of Carmen, the librarian, so that local residents can learn how to use a computer from scratch.

A project by @comunidadmadrid in partnership with @somosupm that aims to train those with fewer digital skills to become self-sufficient and equipped to navigate an increasingly digital world. Let’s make sure no one is left behind!

If you’re interested in this course for your school or local council, please enter your contact details here and we’ll call you shortly.

What is RETOMadrID?

RETOMadrID stands for “Territorial Rebalancing in Madrid through Digital Inclusion”, It is a collaborative initiative between the Community of Madrid and the Polytechnic University of Madrid, forming part of the “NATIONAL DIGITAL SKILLS PLAN” and “Cross-cutting digital skills” components of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan funded by the European Union, Next Generation EU.

With the aim of promoting an inclusive digital transition in rural areas of the Community of Madrid, people living in these areas who are interested in learning the basics of using a computer are being offered the opportunity to receive training from scratch.

RETOMadrID’s innovation at #ICCIDA24, India

Susana M. Hernández, director of the #TEDECO group and principal investigator of #RETOMadrID, is currently at the University of Madrid, where she is speaking at the International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Data Analytics #ICCIDA24 in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. This digital literacy project from the Community of Madrid has made its way there thanks to the innovation and team at the Polytechnic University of Madrid.

It is a source of pride to cross borders with Susana and continue to reach further afield to provide training in basic digital skills to the entire population.
