RETOMadrID kicks off with a visit to the San Martín de Valdeiglesias Library

The RETOMadrID project kicked off this June, and we have been visiting the Miguel Hernández Library @ayto.sanmartin in San Martín de Valdeiglesias with our director, Susana Muñoz, to get the project up and running in the coming days. We were welcomed by Aránzazu Povedano, Mayor of San Martín de Valdeiglesias, alongside Mariela Gómez Fernández, Councillor for Festivals, Social Welfare, the Elderly, Women and Youth, and Socorro Barreñada, from the Los Pinares Association of Municipalities.

The first Digital Inclusion Centres will soon be available, offering simple and intuitive computer training from scratch, at your own pace.
You can register your schools and towns here.

Valdemanco Library will host two Digital Inclusion Points

RETOMadrID is starting to reach out to local councils across the region. And, in the north, the doors of the @aytovaldemanco library have been opened to us; the mayor, Luis Navarro, along with Guillermo and Conchi – the secretary and librarian respectively – have welcomed us to launch this digital literacy project, which over the coming months will provide training to local residents who need it, and which will be available at the local library very soon.

If your local authority wishes to take part in this project run by @comunidadmadrid in collaboration with @somosupm and provide training from scratch to those who need it, please register here.

How does one learn with #RETOMadrID?

With a PID, or Digital Inclusion Point, like the one shown in the image, which you’ll soon be able to find at the Horcajuelo de la Sierra Open Centre for Older People. On this computer, participants will follow a course using the #techpeoplecare methodology, created by the group of experts in digital literacy at TEDECO (Technology for Development and Cooperation) at the Polytechnic University of Madrid.

With a tablet connected to a computer and a pair of headphones, each participant will be able to learn from scratch, at their own pace and in a very straightforward way, the basics needed to use a computer independently, search for information online, open and create documents, book appointments online at their local health centre, and so on.

If your local authority wishes to take part in this project run by @comunidadmadrid in collaboration with @somosupm and provide training from scratch to those who need it, please register here.

The Somosierra library will host a Digital Inclusion Hub

The Somosierra library is also joining this digital literacy project so that local residents can learn how to use a computer from scratch. Raúl, the town’s community worker, will be on hand to help you sign up and take this course at the library.

And a big thank you to David, the IT technician at Somosierra Town Council, for your help.

If your school or local authority would like to take part in this project run by the Community of Madrid in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Madrid, and provide training from scratch to those who need it, please register here.
