The Digital Inclusion Point has been activated at the Municipal Library of Estremera.

At the María Moliner Library in Estremera, a municipality in the Community of Madrid, you can now find the Digital Inclusion Point. This allows anyone over 18 years of age to train and learn how to use a computer FROM SCRATCH, at their own pace, simply, and in approximately eight hours.

If you would like more information on how to take this course, the staff in charge, Carmen or Belén, will be able to help you.

And if you want this project to reach your @comunidadmadrid center/municipality, you can sign up using this form and we will call you as soon as possible to provide more information and install a PID there.

The PID is now available at the Municipal Library of Cadalso de los Vidrios.

👥Who can take this course?
It is open, free, and accessible to anyone over 18 years of age, and it is especially beneficial for any person and/or group in a vulnerable situation, precisely due to their lack of knowledge on how to use a computer. This completely autonomous course, with no need for a teacher, lasts about seven and a half hours that can be organized at the pace of the user and the center where it is taught. It can be followed individually using the tablet, computer, and headphones provided by the project.
💻How can someone who needs it sign up?
It’s as easy as registering at the Library. Clara, the librarian, will provide you with the information as well as the center’s schedule so you can access this service.

Northern Madrid joins the ‘RETOMadriD’ project to reduce the digital divide in its rural areas.

The ‘RETOMadrID’ project arrives in the north of Madrid to reduce the digital divide in its rural areas. It is a regional initiative that seeks to help a total of 43 town councils of municipalities with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants, including those of Horcajuelo de la Sierra, Moralzarzal, and Venturada, so that their residents can improve their digital skills for everyday life.

The initiative has a budget of over 1.2 million euros and its purpose is to train 5,300 people, paying special attention to the elderly, as it will be carried out in aging areas. Its development is expected to last until 2025, having been underway since the first quarter of this year.

It comes from the Ministry of Presidency, Justice and Local Administration, through the Directorate General for Territorial Rebalancing, in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM); and the Community of Madrid itself has explained that these types of initiatives help ensure that all Madrilenians can acquire the necessary digital skills to manage in their day-to-day lives, paying special attention to those who are starting from scratch or do not have the basic concepts to use a computer or perform internet searches. Furthermore, among the different subjects to be taught, teachers will also teach how to fill out forms, open files, or make video calls independently.

This course is provided in the 20 open rural centers of the Sierra Norte Commonwealth; 9 centers belonging to the Los Pinares Commonwealth and another 13 in the Southeast Intermunicipal, as well as in the municipal libraries of small towns. For this purpose, 120 Digital Inclusion Points (PID) equipped with the teacherless training solution ‘TechPeopleCare’ will be installed in these spaces. Each of these stations, which will be fixed for between six and twenty months and of which twenty-four have already been installed in seventeen spaces, will have a complete computer equipment setup provided with a desktop or laptop computer, a tablet, an external mouse, and headphones. In addition, the methodology currently being used offers an instructional program that allows students, through a dual-monitor system, to reproduce on one screen what is shown simultaneously on the other. This facilitates individualized training, personalizing the contents and adaptation according to each case.

Other places where these points have already been installed are San Martín de Valdeiglesias, Redueña, Somosierra, and Valdemanco.

RETOMadrID at the Miraflores de la Sierra Library

September is a month of beginnings and going back to classes, joining the gym, starting new collections, and yes, new courses and learning too.

In this case, September is also the month for all those people who don’t dare to use a computer, who have about eight hours to spend at their own pace, and who are close to a center like the Miraflores de la Sierra Library, where Manuel, the librarian, can already give them all the information to register for the #RETOMadrID course.

Reducing the #brechadigital, being independent with a computer, and navigating safely in an increasingly digital world is the goal of this project by @comunidadmadrid, funded by #NextGenerationEU funds in collaboration with @somosupm. A project that moves forward every day in the municipalities of the Community and that can be in your center, association, residence, etc., within reach of the people who need it.

RETOMadrID at the Sierra Norte Fair in Venturada

This weekend we have a date at the Sierra Norte Fair in Venturada, a wonderful opportunity for more people in Madrid to discover our digital literacy project.

Come visit us or share this with anyone who might be interested in learning how to use a computer from scratch in about eight hours. In addition to learning about #RETOMadrID, you will be able to discover the wide range of leisure activities, services, gastronomy, workshops, and many activities for all ages prepared by @feriasierranorte.

You can find our booth in the Innovation Tent, where you can see firsthand how a Digital Inclusion Point works, just like the ones already installed in numerous centers across rural areas of the Community of Madrid, where hundreds of people are already receiving training.

Our hours will be as follows:

Finalists in the Digital Skills Awards 2024!

#RETOMadrID is a finalist in the Digital Skills Awards Spain 2024 organized by AMETIC in the Digital Literacy for All category, and we couldn’t be happier about this news and this boost to the project.

Alongside the Safe Internet Program of the Cybersecurity Agency of Catalonia, we are competing for this award, and the winner of this and the other categories will be announced on October 24th, as part of #AlianzaTalento7.

Great news for this project by @comunidadmadrid and @somosupm that seeks to close the digital divide in the Community of Madrid, and with which we are reaching people who need to learn how to use a computer from scratch.

Information session about #RETOMadrID in Miraflores de la Sierra

This Thursday, October 24th, at 11:00 AM at the Casa de la Cultura in Miraflores de la Sierra, there will be an information session about the basic computer course “RETOMadrID”, an opportunity to lose your fear of computers designed for all ages. Plus, it is free and at your own pace, without being tied to pre-established schedules.

At the Casa de la Cultura, you will find the Digital Inclusion Point so that those who want or need to learn how to use a computer from scratch can do so at their own pace in approximately eight hours.

Digital Skills Awards 2024 given out by Ametic

It has been an honour to be in the finishers’ photo at the 2024 Digital Swills Awards by Ametic and also to be, last Thursday 24 of October, at the awarding ceremony within the framework VII Foro Alianza por el desarrollo de Talento Digital #AlianzaTalento7.

The prize in the category Digital Literacy for everyone, has been finally awarded to Ciberseguretat de Catalunya agency, however it has been a blessing to come up until this point and a boost to keep striving towards the reduction of the digital gap in the @comunidadmadrid.

The rest of categories and winners were:

Literacy for All: The project “Programa Internet Segura”, by Agència de Ciberseguretat from Catalunya, has as an objective to promote a secure and responsible use of the Internet among the citizens, especially between the youth and their families.

More and better IT trained professionals TIC: OB1, Oriented BrainPower 1 to 1, is an intiative developed by KeepCoding to offer technical advance training and inclusive, aimed to people without knowledge in coding, as well as, professionals that would like to improve their skills in areas such as artificial intelligence, cibersecurity or blockchain.

Digital Skills in the education: Kids Centric Universe, by Gaptain, Educación digital, seeks for cultivating a culture of cibersecurity in the citizenship, especially by giving the necessary digital skills to kids and teenagers in order to achieve a secure and good relationship with technology. It is aimed to 5th grade primary school students and 1st secundary school students, families and teachers.

Digital skills for women and girls: The project ‘Somos Investigadoras’, from Barcelona Supercomputing Center, has as the main objective, to close the gender gap on the youngest ones, collaborating on the creation of female models related with STEM subjects.

Digitall Skills for the inclusion: The project ‘Hub de Diversidad Digital’, powered by Fundación Integralia DKV, produces educational software applications in accordance with the labour market demands, to improve the employment of people with physical, organ, sensory and mental disabilities; people with authism spectrum disorder with many hardships when finding a job.

Digital Skills in the Vocational Training: The suggestion of Androide Roto, developed by CPIFP Alan Turing, is a educative project made by Vocational Training School students.

Redueña’s townhall has alredy begun providing training in basic digital skills to their residents in a simply, easy to follow tailored methodology, thanks to @comunidadmadrid with the support of Universidad Politécnica and funded by #nextgenerationeu.

🎧Is something needed in your centre/municipality?

If you already have available computer, we will facilitate you with tablets, headphones and USBs with the required software installed. If there are no computers, we can bring you laptops and mice. Besides that, WiFi is required in order to keep tablets updated and in the last modules of the course participants will learn how to surf the web.

⌛How long does this course last?

Since this course needs to be completed on your own, each person can do it at their own pace, following centres’ organization/schedule. But the entirety of the course can be covered in just 7.5 hours.

🎯 Who can benefit from #RETOMadrID?

People above 18 years old may participate in these courses by @comunidadmadrid. The course is specifically designed for vulnerable groups, with a very simple language, slow and as much as they want, unlimited playbacks.

Ideal for old people without basic skills or with little but would like to strengthen what they know. Also, for people who are not proficient in Spanish and want to integrate in society.
