UNIVERSITY OF BORDEAUX is the university in France, is ranked among the top French universities for the quality of its education and research. A multidisciplinary, research-focused, international institution, it leads an ambitious development program with its partners as a “Campus of Excellence” and to further promote the University of Bordeaux as part of the European University ENLIGHT.
The research group of “Life Cycle Assessment and Sustainable Chemistry (CyVi)” was created in 2012, that is part of the Institute of Molecular Sciences (ISM), UMR CNRS 5255. It is an interdisciplinary group of scientists and headed by Prof. Guido Sonnemann. The objectives of the research carried out in the CyVi group is to develop and apply methodologies for assessing the environmental impacts and use of natural resource, in particular life cycle assessment (LCA)
Key competences include the following:
- Quantifying flows in the technosphere and in interaction with the environment via life cycle inventories and material flow analysis
- Characterizing flows for their integration into sustainability indicators: environmental impacts life carbon footprint (using life cycle impact assessment), cost and revenues. social impacts like job creation, plus dissipation circularity and criticality of natural resources, such as geopolitical risks
- Supporting researchers in chemistry, materials science, and recycling technologies in their sustainable innovation in their respective laboratory
- Supporting the Nouvelle Aquitaine region’s priority sectors in the environmental and social transition
Rich experience and know-how allow UBx to enhance sustainable engineering & chemistry, and promote the link between academic methodological developments and its application in various fields.
