MOOC LEARNING OUTCOMES

The first Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) offered by the University of Virginia was a comprehensive course on personal branding. This course was not only impressive but also enlightening, providing valuable insights into the process of building a personal digital brand. The course content helped on how to build a reputable identity in the digital world such as Twitter. It demonstrated that building a personal brand is indeed achievable, and it outlined the necessary steps to do so.

In the course, I was introduced to the concept of the 80/20 rule, a principle that is crucial for effectively navigating various social media platforms. This rule, often referred to as the Pareto Principle, suggests that 80% of outcomes come from 20% of causes. In the context of social media, it implies that a significant portion of engagement is driven by a small fraction of one’s content or efforts.

The course also included a personality test, which I found to be an enlightening experience. This test allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of my personal traits and how they influence my interactions in the digital world.

Furthermore, the course provided important insights into digital privacy, a topic of increasing relevance in today’s interconnected world. It emphasized the importance of safeguarding personal information and maintaining privacy while interacting online. The knowledge and skills I acquired from this course significantly enhanced my digital identity and personal learning environment. I was able to refine my online presence and create a more impactful and authentic digital identity.

The second Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) offered by the Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) focused on the Circular Economy. This course provided a wealth of insights into how presumed waste can be transformed into reusable products, a key principle of the circular economy. One of the most striking examples discussed in the course was the approach taken by Philips, a multinational conglomerate. Philips has implemented a strategy of reacquiring all used products. This innovative practice not only reduces waste but also allows the company to repurpose and reuse components, thereby creating a closed-loop system.

The business model underlying this approach was explored in depth during the course. It was fascinating to see how such a model can be both economically viable and environmentally sustainable. The course demonstrated that with the right strategies and practices, businesses can contribute to a circular economy while also achieving their financial objectives.

Overall, the MOOC offered by TU Delft was a valuable resource for understanding the principles and practices of the circular economy.

PERSONAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

Hello!!!

I would like to present my preliminary personal learning environment, comprising a diverse set of tools organized into four distinct groups, as follows: Search & research, Communication & networking, Learning & writing, and Organization & storage tools.

Subsequent to acquiring additional tools, I enhanced my ability to adeptly manage both time and projects. This development prompted a reevaluation and refinement of my personal learning environment. During this process, I successfully regrouped and reorganized my tools, aiming for a more cohesive representation of my learning ecosystem.

Notably, the Personal Learning Environment (PLE) group now boasts a more diverse array of tools, meticulously regrouped to delineate their respective functionalities and applications, thereby contributing to an enriched and well-structured learning environment.

A PERSONAL REFLECTION ON PROFESSIONAL FUTURE

Six years ago marked the beginning of my professional journey, and since then, I’ve had the privilege of gaining valuable experience in two diverse industries: FMCG and recycling. These years of hands-on experience have not only honed my skills but have also fueled a growing desire to delve deeper into the intricacies of my chosen field. Now, at this juncture in my career, I find myself at a crucial crossroads, driven by a passion for learning and a vision for the future.

Reflecting on my trajectory, I’ve made a deliberate choice to expand my knowledge base significantly. The next phase of my professional development involves pursuing a Ph.D. in the renewable energy sector. This decision is rooted in a profound commitment to contributing meaningfully to an industry that holds the key to sustainable and eco-friendly solutions for the world’s growing energy needs. Envisioning the future, I see myself as a trailblazer in the renewable energy sector. The pursuit of a Ph.D. is not merely an academic endeavor but a strategic step toward acquiring the in-depth knowledge and expertise necessary to drive innovation in this dynamic field. I aim not only to be a consumer of renewable energy advancements but a driving force behind them.

Upon the completion of my Ph.D., my sights are set on returning to my home country (Nigeria). With a wealth of knowledge and a zeal for positive change, I aspire to establish a startup company within the renewable energy sector. This venture is not only a personal aspiration but a commitment to contributing to the sustainable development goals of my nation. The startup will not only create economic opportunities but will also play a pivotal role in addressing the pressing energy challenges faced by my community.

Hassan Kazeem Olanrewaju

Hola!

Hi Reader,

I am Hassan, Kazeem Olanrewaju. I am a simple and easygoing individual with a keen interest in sustainability and circular economy approaches, which is one of the many reasons I applied for the AMIR master’s program. I excel in employing problem-solving methodologies and analytical thinking, skills I have adeptly applied in my prior professional endeavors within the dynamic landscape of Nigeria. Originating from Nigeria, a nation situated in the western region of Africa, I possess a profound appreciation for its rich, diverse, and captivating culture. If you have not yet had the opportunity to visit this remarkable country, I highly recommend considering it for a future travel experience.

I have a deep passion for sustainability technologies and am consistently driven to enhance my expertise in this field. Additionally, I firmly believe in the pivotal role that agriculture plays in our society, which has motivated my aspiration to become a sustainable farmer.

During my leisure moments, I find solace in serene sleep, exploring new destinations through travel, and indulging in the tranquility of swimming. Nature and diverse cultures serve as my wellsprings of inspiration, nurturing my creative spirit.

I eagerly anticipate connecting with my colleagues, fostering a spirit of mutual learning and sharing experiences. Together, we can contribute meaningfully to the ever-evolving landscape of sustainable practices.

Let me leave you with one of the sayings of Nigeria’s greatest leader, Chief Obafemi Awolowo “It is, I think, enough for me to say that life itself is, from the cradle to the grave, a series of unbroken risks. I make no boast about this, but those who know me intimately will testify to the fact that I have never, at any time, shrunk from taking my full share of the risks that life, with its unending opportunities and vicissitudes, offers.”
