MOOC: “Introduction to Personal Branding”, Learning Experience

The MOOC course, “Introduction to Personal Branding,” in Coursera by the University of Virginia was thought-provoking and insightful. The following are my key takeaways when it comes to personal branding;

  • Be genuine and authentic
  • Be a master of your craft
  • Tell a story
  • Be consistent
  • Be ready to fail
  • Live your brand
  • Create a positive impact

Taking this course has been a transformative experience for my professional and career journey. This course equipped me with a comprehensive understanding of the principles behind personal branding, emphasizing the importance of cultivating an authentic professional identity and having a mission statement and personal board of directors to guide and advise me in my professional journey.  It also highlighted the importance of digital security and reputation management.

As an enthusiast of sustainability and circular economy, I believe that the skillset and insights I obtained in this course will help me to build a strong personal brand in this field.  Through the lens of personal branding, it helped me to visualize how to leverage my Personal Learning Environment (PLE) and Professional Digital Identity as an ecosystem to learn, grow engage, network, connect, and build a digital presence that aligns with my career aspirations.

However, on the social media platform, the course mainly focused on Twitter, “X”. I would recommend the addition of a practical guide on how to establish and build a professional brand on Linkedln which is the mostly used platform for professional purposes.

Lastly don’t forget, “The 80/20 Rule”. Put 80% of content online for the interest of your audience and 20% for self-promotion.
