RETOMadrID takes part in the 2024 Science and Innovation Week

Yesterday, the round-table “RETOMadrID: Innovation that connects and transforms rural lives” took place within the framework “Science and Innovation Week” by @comunidadmadrid at @etsimeupm.

The round table focused on explaining the digital literacy project in municipalities with fewer than 20,000 residents in the Community of Madrid and brought together important stakeholders for its development, including @comunidadmadrid team and @somosupm, responsible for the municipalities we are already working with as facilitators, as well as, needless to say, our course alumni.

It was an awesome meeting in which we heard participants’ voices expressing their interest in making dissappear the digital gap in the population, especially among vulnerable groups such as our older adults and immigrants with little or no access to technology. The closing ceremony featured the presence of @javi.carazo, General Director for Territorial Rebalance in the Community of Madrid.

Thanks to all the participants in the round table:

  • Ms. Eva Barrios Reyes (@eva.barrios.reyes), Head of the Strategic Coordination Division and coordinator of the RETOMadrID team at the Community of Madrid
  • Mr. Jesús Manuel Romero Martín, Mayor of Gascones
  • Ms. Yolanda Calles Martínez, Councillor for Culture, Employment, Health and Social Affairs, and First Deputy Mayor of @actualidadventurada

#RETOMADRID IN MADARCOS

Starting today, Judith is welcoming residents of Madarcos at Espacio Cuídame, on the street called El Pozo, 7. Anyone who is interested in learning how to use a computer from scratch may join in. We cover most basic concepts, such as turning a PC on and off, using a mouse, understanding what a Desktop is, opening folders, creating files, navigating the system and even booking a doctor’s appointment.

Even though, it may seem like basic knowledge to us, for many circumstances it is not accessible to everyone. Through our project free and funded by #NextGenerationEU all this information is available at your fingertips in just 8 hours.

If you would like to bring this project by @comunidadmadrid and @somosupm funded by, #NextGenerationEU#PlanDeRecuperación, to your centre, sign up here and we will get in touch as soon as possible.

Which centres can take in RETOMadrID’s project?

Inside of our network, public or private centres, NGOs, associations, etc. are welcome. Every centre that a Digital Inclusion Point could be installed and could aim our target group (those people who are willing to learn the computer from scratch and the basics needs to surf the web) may participate in this programme.

Which requirements are needed to carry out this project in your centre?

We are flexible in different situations and places, but the only thing we ask for is a place to keep the required hardware for the training and a person of the project in charge of the participants to help with the sign-up process, the management of the documentation and the communication with our cooperation team. Morever, even if, there is already a centre participating at one municipality of fewer than 20,000 inhabitants, our local facilitator who sets up Digital Inclusion Points, can facilate this project at another centre of the same municipality, to extend our reach to people willing to participate.

Training available at the Valdepiélagos Reading Center

At the Reading Center of ayuntamiento_valdepielagos, a digital literacy course is up and running brought by #RETOMadrID. Any person interested can pop in and ask for Rodrigo, their manager, who will help you sign up and start out as soon as possible.

Learn to use a computer for free, easily and at your own pace from anywhere and whenever it suits you following TechPeopleCare methodology developed by TEDECO (Technology for Development and Cooperation), a cooperation group from somosupm made up of teachers, students from Escuela Superior de Ingenieros Informáticos @etsiinf, and external collaborators. This methodology has already been implemented in different countries and communities at risk of vulnerability and social exclusion due to a lack of basic digital skills.

If you would like to bring this project of @comunidadmadrid and @somosupm funded by #NextGenerationEU#PlanDeRecuperación to your centre sign up here and we will get in touch as soon as possible.

All public and/or private centers located in areas with a population of fewer than 20,000 inhabitants may participate.

During these weeks RETOMadrID’s course will be free and available also for those people interested in learning how to use a computer, organize data or make online appointments such as calling the doctor  🏥✨
