ARPADA Chair 2025 Ideas Competition — From Waste to Resource: Reimagining Wood in Sustainable Construction

The ARPADA Chair at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), in collaboration with the School of Building Engineering, launches the 2025 Ideas Competition to promote creativity, innovation, and sustainability in the construction sector.

This year’s challenge focuses on finding new uses and applications for wood waste generated in construction and demolition activities — a key step toward a more circular and resource-efficient economy.

Participants (undergraduate or master’s students, individually or in teams) are invited to submit proposals exploring:

  • Innovative materials or products from wood waste
  • Architectural or design applications
  • Technological processes that enhance recycling
  • Circular business models in construction

📅 Key dates:

  • Call opens: 3 November 2025
  • Submission deadline: 1 December 2025
  • Winners announced: 15 December 2025

🏆 Awards:

  • 1st Prize: €200
  • 2nd Prize: €100
  • Special Mention: Sustainability or Innovation

Outstanding projects will be showcased by the ARPADA Chair and may serve as a foundation for future research and industry collaborations.
