About JULES GUILLAUD

Hi, My name is Jules Guillaud, I am from Nantes a city in the west part of France. I started the AMIR master in 2022 in Lisbon and now in Madrid for the second year.

MOOC “Personal Branding” learning results

The MOOC “Personal Branding” class that I followed, helps me to explore important aspects of representing ourselves to others. This training primarily focuses on the virtual image, but it is also important for a non-virtual approach. It covers techniques for better self-awareness, defining our goals, determining the best ways to present ourselves on the web, and the importance/impact of a good photo and more.

As someone not inclined to develop an online image, this course helped me discover some techniques without convincing me that a virtual image is indispensable. I am aware of individuals around me who have pursued various careers without any online representation or network such as LinkedIn, and I am convinced that this aspect is not a necessity. I believe that a person providing good work will always be promoted and recommended through direct means. While I acknowledge that this image is becoming important and can open certain doors, I think it should be complementary to a direct approach, involving face-to-face interactions and word of mouth.

This course helps me to reorganize my final PLE and add a subsection that I want to develop in the near future. It can be found through this link: https://blogs.upm.es/t4pdc/2023/11/20/personal-learning-environment-3/

Personal Learning Environment

Hi everyone,

Here are the initial and improved PLE. I attempted to represent, in the simplest way possible, the tools and resources I use every week for learning, working, sharing, discovering, etc. In the improved version, I aimed to make it more design and comprehensive. This includes a section on the skills I want to work on to enhance my PLE in the future.

The structure is a bit different from the examples, as I considered platforms like YouTube can serve at the same time as a diffuser, filter, and research platform for information. Additionally, I included a section on future development because I thought it would be interesting to know and get inspirations from what others want to work on to improve their PLE.

Personal reflection on the professional future

The question of the future career has probably been one of the questions I have most often answered with “I don’t know” since I was born. Whether it was during an interview or a family gathering, not knowing what to say would make me so tense that I have had a lot of time to think about it. And… I still don’t know !! Defining an ideal job role remains difficult because what I seek in work goes beyond a job title or mission.

I’m firmly convinced that my desire to work is rooted in sharing, collaboration, and a focus on common interests ahead of personal gain. I’m convinced that to truly thrive in a job, it is important to be connected with individuals who enjoy hands-on involvement, who enjoy interacting with all levels of a company’s personnel, and who find satisfaction in seeing the results of long-term efforts.

While technology, algorithms, computers, phones, and AI have undoubtedly driven progress in many sectors of society, including critical ones. I hold the belief that these technological advancements should never overtake the value of human cooperation, face-to-face interactions, in-person collaboration (instead of boring zoom), and knowledge sharing. My goal is to find a job that places these collective values at the forefront, as I strongly believe they always contribute positively to our society.

Hi, my name is Jules Guillaud, originally from the city of Nantes in France. After two years of studying materials science in my hometown, I pursued my bachelor’s degree in Edinburgh, Scotland. Following these three years of study, I decided to take a break to explore various professions and establish a more concrete connection with the professional world (and time to relax of course). During this time, I was able to complete internships in companies related to materials, including one specialized in high-performance composites and another in industrial mechanics.

Being passionate about manual work, these two years of break also provided me with the opportunity to experience very different environments. In the second year, I worked in the Netherlands and Denmark with a farmer and professional fishermen in the North Sea. These experiences taught me a lot about adaptation, relationships, cohesion, and strengthened my desire to continue my studies. This is how I joined AMIR master in 2022 at NOVA University in Lisbon. The ongoing second year, taking place in Madrid at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, focuses on recycling, material valorisation, and the circular economy, a sector with many challenges in the coming years, which I hope to be part of.
