My Digital Identity

Below, I present my digital identity plan, where I aim to strengthen my professional and academic presence. My goal is to continue growing in areas such as ceramic materials, data science, and circular economy, while building a strong network to support my development. Here, I share the strategies, resources, and activities I am implementing to achieve my goals and establish my identity in the digital environment. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1VDnEUdUkPNYh_I55hnjJNxlnX4WAUF4i/view?usp=sharing

About DAVID DUARTE NIETO

Hello! I am David Duarte, I was born in Colombia, but I grew up in Venezuela. I work in the field of materials and their potential in the construction world. I'm currently studying a master's degree in advanced recycling of materials, a path that brings me closer to the goal of contributing to a more sustainable world. I like being in contact with nature. If I can overcome laziness, I like hiking and mountaineering. At home, I usually read manga and watch Japanese animation, a culture that awakens a lot of curiosity and admiration in me. I also enjoy exploring the gastronomy of each new place I visit.

DAVID’S PLE (PERSONAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT)

I am sharing my PLE (Personal Learning Environment). I based it on a circular and concentric concept to represent that the tools are integrated into my daily routine and that my academic, professional, and personal activities revolve around them.

In the first region (NOW), you will find the tools I currently use. In the second region (FUTURE), you will see the tools I would like to incorporate in the near future. Both are presented in the same diagram because acquiring skills in these new tools does not mean I will stop using the current ones; instead, they complement each other.

Key insights and journey experience in The Week-U

The U week was a journey of personal and collective learning that led us through three sessions in a process of reflection about the impact that our activities and those of large companies worldwide have on climate change, food production and distribution, and lifestyles in general.

Being part of this activity gave me a broader and more optimistic perspective on how to contribute positively to mitigate the effects of current production models and/or practices that threaten the sustainability of the planet. We can all contribute from our area of interest and professional development. The projection of myself that I would like to see materialized in 10 years is that of a socially and environmentally responsible person serving as an agent of change to migrate towards alternative technology in the area of materials. But I would also certainly like to lead a more holistic lifestyle. Sometimes less is more, and being immersed in a consumer society is something I want to avoid as much as possible.

Thanks to Professor Ruth Carrasco for taking us on this experience.

Personal reflection on my professional future

“Technology is a useful servant but a dangerous master.”

Christian Lous Lange

My personal future is full of uncertainty. As the video “#MiEmpleoMiFuturo: a documentary about robots, economy, middle class… and the end of the world” points out, I was trained in an outdated educational model, since we spent a lot of time memorizing information that is even outdated. I studied the notions about metals and ceramics with the idea of contributing to those areas in my own country. Currently, primary sector industries such as steel and cement are paralyzed. The government understood that it was cheaper to buy everything prefabricated in China and simply assemble it.

However, I believe that there is something that machines cannot or do not care to do: fight climate change. Machines do not care that the temperature of the planet is rising year after year, or that there is microplastic in food. The curious thing is that even many human beings are not interested in this or are not aware of this fact.

I never studied my career convinced that I would have a good salary, I simply wanted to find out the why of some things. I hope in the future finding the answer to many of these questions will translate into effective solutions against pollution or emissions. Then I might feel too tired to continue and decide to retire to the countryside to have more time for myself.

The future I want is not one where I have beaten the system and everyone talks about me as a person with revolutionary ideas who built a successful company. I simply hope for peaceful days and to live without regretting the decisions I made. The future I want is more influenced by my human relationships than by my professional ambitions. Rather than having to travel constantly for work commitments, I prefer to have time for my family. These are things that I believe a machine cannot take away from me and in which I do not have to compete against anyone else.

Introducing myself: David Duarte

Hi readers! My name is David Duarte, I am from Colombia. I have a degree in materials engineering with an emphasis on ceramic materials for the construction industry. I am a student of the Master’s Degree in Advanced Materials and Circular Economy and I want to develop binder materials with a lower carbon footprint, friendly to the environment.

My professional goals are to join research groups dedicated to the reuse of waste for its reincorporation into the production chain and achieve a transition from the linear economy model to a circular and sustainable model.

My areas of expertise are: life cycle analysis of products, binder materials, ceramic glazes and glass. Valorisation and reincorporation of industrial wastes. Physical-chemical characterization of materials and implementation of new technologies.
