Mariana Tracastro – Personal presentation

Hello, I’m Mariana!

I’m originally from Brazil, but I’m currently living in Madrid because I’m pursuing a master’s degree called AMIR (Advanced Materials: Innovative Recycling). This program has provided me with a deep understanding of the circular economy. As a result, I’ve shifted my mindset, and now, when evaluating any product or service, I take a critical look at its circularity. I consider factors such as how difficult it is to dismantle a product and how a service can minimize waste, among other things.

When I was younger, I had to move to 11 different cities because of my father’s job. So, I learned to adapt to new schools, make new friends, and discover new environments. This experience has made me quite dynamic and a communicative person.

I would say I am a person who really loves a challenge.

I always want to understand things and solve problems. I believe this is one of my driving forces. I really enjoy the challenge of analyzing the symptoms, identifying what is wrong, and finding the solutions. That is the reason I chose to work in the engineering field.

I hold a degree in Materials Engineering with 8 years of professional experience in the mining and automotive industries. My exposure to different cultures through my diverse peer network enables me to think in a cross-cultural, cross-functional way and enhances my abilities to tackle a wide range of customer issues and propose innovative solutions.

If you’d like to learn more about me, please feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn.

Anıl Esen

Hey reader, welcome to blog of Anıl Esen. I am a mineral processing engineer, and now in the second year of master’s program on Circular Economy : Minerals and Construction Products. Last year, our courses on LCA and entrepreneurship broadened my horizons and revealed my potential (No, I won’t remember organic chemistry especially the HOMO-LUMO parts.) Not only the courses, but also the difficulties I haven’t faced before, in retrospect, changed how I view myself and life. For example now, I know that I won’t ever live in a 9 sqm room again (except a jail in parallel universe, god save us).

Goncharov : a good starting point for avid reading

I like questions more than answers, thus I love philosophy with it’s all types. If you are interested in philosophy or reading in general, but are unsure where to begin among the innumerable books available, I recommend that you begin with Russian literature to guide you, as it did for me.

I also like to read different kinds of books on psychology, literature, investing, and science of course. I am a fan of blues and different varieties of rock music like classic, psychedelic or stoner rock. Waking up early to go to gym is the routine which I adapted, so I probably won’t go to F*cking Monday (a nightclub in Madrid) on Monday nights 🙂 (Linda ummh sorry)

3D Concrete Printing, now and in the future

You’ll probably remember Anıl in the future as the “3D printing guy” who is passionate about robotics, AI, and 3d printing in construction sector. I regularly read on these topics and follow the updates around the world. Me and my dear colleague Gigi (a.k.a. L.A.P.) thus have a startup project on 3DCP which has a high potential of rising as a unicorn if we keep working on it. Please let me know if we share similar interests, and don’t forget to connect on LinkedIn!

Best of you, memento mori.

Julia Álvarez del Cuadro

Hello!

I am Julia Álvarez del Cuadro, an Industrial Engineer coming from the North of Spain. Currently, I am following a Master in Circular Economy with a focus on Minerals and Construction Products. I am also working in a Technological Center of the Polytechnic University of Madrid, the Official Laboratory José María Madariaga.
My first contact with Circular Economy was during my bachelor thesis, and since then I new that I wanted to continue my studies around that topic.
I hope that my professional future will allow me to work on envirnonmental projects, specialy energy related where I can apply my best skills and knowledge.

Let’s keep in touch!

Yenny Mancera

My name is Yenny Mancera. I am a civil engineer from the Universidad de la Salle (Colombia), where I got involved in research projects on the use of alternative construction materials, making my way into the world of structural design through the project of a pedestrian bridge in guadua for places of difficult access.
From there I started working in LinceAndina, a structural design company and after that I worked for 3 years in the public sector, where I learned the importance of project formulation in the construction sector and therefore I did a master’s degree in project management at the American University of Europe.
At the end of these studies, I was given the opportunity to travel to Spain where I did an expert course in BIM Manager at the European University of Valencia, without leaving aside my interest in researching alternative materials for construction, and focusing my previous knowledge in my current studies in the Master of Circular Economy at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, where I also work on a research project on acoustic insulation made from waste.
I am passionate about nature and animals, so in my free time I enjoy walks with my family to parks or the mountains and I take care of some puppies; I love crafts and artwork, so I take advantage of some discarded materials to make furniture and ornaments for my house or my friends and neighbours.

Introduction to Dimitris

Hello everybody interested in me!

My name is Dimitris and I am from Athens, Greece. I started my studies in nursing (I know a little bit weird) but after one year I decided to quit and follow my passion for Chemistry. After 4,5 years, I managed to get my diploma and I already knew what I wanted to do after, Studying Abroad, an idea coming from my Erasmus experience in France.

I got accepted into the AMIR master (EIT label) at NOVA University of Lisbon and now I am following my second year at UPM in Madrid which is about Circular Economy. During those years, I got more involved with EU legislations and sustainable goals where I obtained awareness and a little bit of anxiety about the future of us and of the world.

My professional goal after finishing the master is to get more involved with the green energy transition in Europe by working in a company that has as first priority the prosperity of the European community.

Angela Insignares Schifino

My name is Angela Insignares Schifino and I was born and raised in Barranquilla, Colombia. I am a candidate for the Master in Circular Economy: Speciality in Minerals and Construction Products in the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. I have a bachelor degree in Architecture and Civil Engineering from Universidad del Norte (Barranquilla, Colombia) and University of South Florida (Tampa, Florida, USA).

I have experience working in the construction sector as an estimator and project manager for residential, comercial, institutional, road, and mechanical activities.

I started learning about Circular Economy through several courses from my undergrad and a Coursera degree. When I decided to join this master, I was inclined for the Minerals and Construction Products speciality because this sector is one of the main industries that most impact negatively the environment in the world. The cement and concrete industry has room for technological growth that can impact every country. I plan for my future to be able to educate and investigate about this subject in order to improve the human quality of life, economy and environment.
