Edwin Francis Memirieki – Personal Presentation

Hola!

I am Edwin Francis Memirieki from Tanzania.

I am a sustainability and circular economy enthusiast especially in energy transition and recycling that led me to this EIT labelled master program, “Advanced Materials Innovative Recycling (AMIR)”. I did my first year at University of Bordeaux in France where we studied mostly about material sciences, sustainability and entrepreneurship. Currently, I am doing my second year at Polytechnical University of Madrid (UPM) on circular economy majoring minerals and construction products.

I pursued my bachelor degree in petroleum chemistry which is why I am so passionate about energy transition to be part of change in the journey towards decarbonization and sustainability. I have also profound working experience in environmental and quality management.

In the near future, I am committed to helping companies and businesses navigate the transition to clean energy and enhance their recycling practices. By utilizing knowledge and skills acquired during my master program I will collaborate with other experts in providing tailored solutions to businesses to reduce their environmental impact, and stay competitive in a changing market through making informed decision and contribute to a more sustainable future. I’m also eager to test my entrepreneurial ideas, taking calculated risks, and leveraging innovation to create impactful solutions in the energy transition and recycling sectors.

Apart from my professional life, I am storyteller, writer and avid reader. I have a voracious appetite for knowledge, constantly immersing myself in diverse books on psychology, philosophy, personal development, business, science, literature, and a wide range of subjects, fuelling my passion for lifelong learning and holistic understanding.

BONUS: You want to know my story in sustainability? Here its!

I grew up in the village seeing plastic bottles and bags scattered everywhere like autumn leaves in Retiro Park, a poignant reminder of the contrast between my rural upbringing and the bustling cityscape of Madrid. Bad enough I have observed our family’s cows dying unknowingly after chewing plastics bags, and there is when I started questioning about plastics!!

What are they made from?

Why they are not biodegradable?

Aren’t there any possible ways to recycle or reuse them?

After my bachelor degree, I started collecting them and trying to make some brooms, that was a crazy moment. Hahaaa!!

That is my short story to the world of sustainability and circular economy.
