Join the 7th Wetskills Water Challenge in Romania (Bucharest)

Wetskills Foundation and partners invite last year Bachelor, Master, PhD students and graduates to apply for this new Wetskills event in Bucharest and Constant, Romania. This will be the seventh event in this water-rich country in Central Eastern Europe. The Finals and Awarding Ceremony will be organized at the residence of the Ambassador of the Kingdom of The Netherlands on 28 November 2024.

Wetskills-Romania 2024 in Bucharest (16-29 November)

The participants will work in mixed and multidisciplinary teams of four to five people, to develop innovative concepts to real-life case studies provided by the water sector (combination of industries, governments, NGOs and knowledge institutes) during an extensive two-week program.
The program will start with team building activities for the first two days to allow participants to get to know each other. This includes field trips to water-related and cultural sites both in Bucharest and surroundings.

An intensive period will follow that will focus on working on the assigned study case. Dutch and Romanian supervisors will guide you during the weeks and facilitate your team to find its own innovative concept.
Finally, the teams will pitch their results during a special
Workshop at the residence of the Ambassador of the
Kingdom of The Netherlands on 28 November 2024. The
winning team will be announced and awarded then as well.

This Wetskills edition in Romania will be hosted by the National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest. Wetskills Foundation partner with other Romanian academia University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest and Technical University for Civil Engineering in Bucharest. Other main partners are Romanian Water Association, Apele Romane, Dutch Water Authorities (Blue Deal), Circular EELISA, and the Embassy of The Kingdom of The Netherlands.

Who can apply?
Any Young Water Professionals (up to 5 years of working experience) and last year Bachelor, Master or PhD student and recent graduate from Romanian and European universities or organizations and beyond with passion for water and intercultural teamwork.

Prepare a motivation letter and resume, go to www.wetskills.com, submit the online application form on the website.

Selection criteria
The Wetskills organization will make a final selection among applications received, based on quality of motivation & resume.

What are the costs?

  • The participation fee for (international) participants not living in Bucharest is € 325,- (excl. 21% VAT). This participation fee includes accommodation, team building activities, some lunches & dinners, field trips, workshop, supervision, trainings and working venues. Participants are responsible for their own travel expenses (plane tickets, local travel, etcetera), meals during working days and other personal costs.
  • For local applicants with accommodation in Bucharest, the participation fee is € 60,- (excl. VAT). This includes all arrangements except for accommodation in Bucharest (but travel and accommodation outside Bucharest is included).

During past editions participants often successfully arranged financial compensation for their Wetskills participation from their university or employer. We therefore strongly encourage applicants to inquire about funding opportunities to compensate the costs (university mobility funds, travel allowance etc.).

What do I get?

  • You will learn and experience more about the Romanian water sector, the main stakeholders and organizations;
  • You will receive a certificate of participation upon completion of the program.
  • You can receive 3 Credit Points (extracurricular), dependent on your university.
