Welcome to the website of the Solar Energy Institute (IES). The IES is a research center at the Technical University of Madrid entirely dedicated to advancing science and technological transfer in photovoltaic solar energy. 

Founded in 1979, we are one of the pioneering centers worldwide in solar research, and we take pride in having significantly contributed to the solar revolution we are witnessing today. 

As we enter the third decade of the 21st century, the renewable revolution has become a reality, with the vast majority of new electrical capacity installed worldwide being renewable. Furthermore, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA), by 2030, photovoltaic solar energy is expected to account for 75% of all new electrical capacity additions due to its lower generation and installation costs compared to fossil and non-fossil alternatives in most countries, supported by favorable policies. 

In this context of growth, the IES aims to remain a key player, offering education, science, and technology to promote more, better, and innovative photovoltaic solar energy.
