Our research focuses on critical areas to advance and accelerate the development of photovoltaic solar energy

Research at IES spans the entire value chain of photovoltaic solar energy, from foundational materials science—exploring new materials for next-generation solar cells—to the complexities of designing, commissioning, and operating multimegawatt solar power plants. Our work also includes innovative applications of photovoltaics (PV) in vehicles and energy storage, as well as examining the societal challenges posed by the widespread adoption of solar power.

The institute’s multidisciplinary research environment brings together scientists from diverse backgrounds, including physics, materials science, engineering, and chemistry.
