AGRONOMY REGULATORY COORDINATOR

REPORTING TO: REGULATORY AFFAIRS MANAGER

  • Like a forest, legislation is always growing and evolving. Navigating this regulatory jungle isa challenge that is also always developing.
  • This job needs someone who has a knowledge of the agronomic regulatory environment but also someone who is flexible enough to keep up with it – due to the everchanging legislative environment the job demands a very flexible personality.

  • Of course, there is more to the role tan navigating the regulatory jungle and organizing and attending events – in ANOVE you’ll need to interactpatiently and sympathetically with a lot of people becausein this job you’re going to get asked a lot of questions. Maybe even the same questions, over and over again, from different people and regulatory bodies, so you’ll need to have the capacity to be very patient. Client relationships may depend on your empathy and patience.
  • You have a basic knowledge of the regulations regarding agricultural activity and you also know that things can be done better, quicker and more easily by applying the right regulatory codes instead of the wrong ones – that if a tomato is classed as a fruit, thenits importis differentthanif it’s classed as a vegetable; that if people handle plants potentially infected by plant pathogens, then they must follow the relevant protocols as outlined in the relevant legislation, and so on. Coupled with this you need to have at least a basic understanding of genetics and plant growth in order to fully grasp the real-world background to the regulations.
  • And of course, you must be responsable and prepared towork hard as well as smart in this job.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE:

  • ANOVEis the Spanish association that brings together companies and public centers dedicated to generating added value in the agri-food sector through research, development, and exploitation of new plant varieties.

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO INANOVE?:

  • Manage andresolve basic consultations regarding regulatory legislation in the agronomic area. You will consult with your superior regarding more complex questions.
  • Provide support to technical projects in the regulatory context.
  • Manage ESTA (European Seed Treatment Assurance) certification processes.
  • Management of sector reports.
  • Legislative and normative vigilance – monitoring of approved legislation and the initial internal evaluation of the effects of this legislation on the agronomic sector.
  • Provide administrative and organizational support to the investigation of new projects and legislative changes.
  • Liaising with Public Administration in regulatory  and technical matters, providing ad-hoc support to regulatory representatives on sectorial commissions and working groups both at national and regionallevel.
  • Provide administrative and organizational support within the regulatory department and also Association meetings.
  • Assist in the communication of new projects, events and meetings using social media.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • You’ll need to hold a university degree in agronomy, biology or related discipline along with a familiarity with the legislative and regulatory framework relating to the importand exportof agricultural products, especially regarding plantsand sedes though you don’t need to be an expert in the field and help will be available to bring you up to speed if necessary.
  • It’s essential that you have good spoken and written English (ideally B2orbetter) as you’ll be speaking with and writing to people both nationally and internationally.
  • To be a candidate for this job you’ll need tobefrom a member state of the European Union.
