Alberto Sanz Cobeña

Alberto Sanz Cobeña is a PhD Doctor in Agro-Environmental Technology. His research activity is focused on the study and analysis of mitigation strategies for nitrogen losses, which are associated with the agricultural production at the plot scale, within an exercise to increase scales, both temporal and spatial. The use of process models together with the experimental data obtained during his previous research activity, allows him to make an estimation of the aforementioned emissions in medium and long term activities in various agricultural systems and under different management strategies. Recently, beyond the plot, has sought a more integrated view of a complex problem such as the emission of greenhouse gases and other nitrogen compounds in the agri-food system and recently working on their mitigation. Without abandoning the generation of high quality- empirical data at such scale, it has led other studies focused on the provincial, watershed, national and large region (Mediterranean). He has delved into methodologies such as meta-analysis, modeling and nutrient balances.

In addition to the research line developed at the CEIGRAM (UPM), he collaborates with itdUPM in the evaluation of the results linked to the actions of urban agriculture (NBS) and the consumption of local foods, what has an impact on the frequency of life and sustainability of cities and their inhabitants. Linked in this area of his work, his collaboration with the UPM Platform on Refugees is focused on giving answer to the challenges of the production and consumption of food in the shelter field of Shimelba, working among other sectors.
