Juan M. Montero is professor at the Department of Electronic Engineering at ETSIT (Universidad Politenica de Madrid), Vice-Dean of Quality and Postgraduate at ETSIT-UPM, Member of the Evaluation Commission for Engineering at National Agency for Quality and Accreditation and member of the Speech Technology Group (GTH) in the Information Processing and Telecommunication Center-ETSIT. His research interests are: speech technology, affective computing and machine learning.
Juan M Montero received a MSEE degree and a Ph.D. (with highest distinction and an national award from the Professional Association of Telecommunication Engineers) from UPM. Juan did two post-doc stays, in the International Computer Science Institute de Berkeley (in 2005-2006, granted by the Institute) and in CSTR at Edinburgh (in 2013, granted by the Spanish Ministry of Education).
Juan has been the Principal Investigator of 5 national R+D projects on speech and image processing, 1 regional Project, 2 innovative education projects and Workpackage leader in an FP7 Simple4All project. Juan has participated in more than 25 research and innovation projects (being the PI in 9 of them) publishing more than 125 papers (more than 30 in JCR journals). He is author of 1 patent and 3 IP-protected works. Juan has been member of many R&D teams: 7 European projects, 8 national projects, 3 thematic networks, 4 regional projects, 2 projects for international companies, 3 for national companies, 7 innovative education projects.
Juan has supervised 4 PhD thesis (on speech synthesis, human-machine interaction, and machine-learning systems) and more than 30 Master theses (on the same topics).
