The composition is example of modern intervention within a historic urban fabric. The building primarily achieves its order through a synthesis of opposing elements. The composition is dominated by vertical hierarchy, established by the material contrast between the lower block and the upper section. The base is defined with robust volume which respects the established street line and the proportions of its historical neighbours. Despite the idea it conveys, about a strong base, the perforations in the ground floor facade still provide insights into new techniques and modern principles. Above is distinctly lighter
volume. This glass-and-steel floor has tectonic principle, prioritizing structure, lightness. While the overall structure adheres to a rigid rectangular geometry, contributing to a sense of order and symmetry necessary for integration into the streetscape, this symmetry is
often subtly broken. Minor depth differences prevent the façade from becoming entirely monolithic and static. The proportions maintain an elegant scale; the large, simple openings on the lower mass and the continuous openings of the top floors reduces its visual weight, manipulating the sense of scale relative to the whole. Long, crisp horizontal and vertical lines define the building’s edges and articulation, establishing a precise, rational grid. The
use of subtly shifted planar elements and recessed windows further enhances the proportional rhythm of the facade, creating shallow shadows that emphasize the meticulous calibration of every component.
The building’s relationship with its context is highly successful. It maintains the street’s perimeter and height. However, its pure character from clean lines and the modern use of materials ensures it stands as an autonomous, contemporary work. This approach avoids imitation while achieving integration
