The UPM Microelectronics Initiative brings together, coordinates and structures all the research and development activities that several Centers and Institutes of the University develop in the field of microelectronics, optoelectronics and semiconductor technologies. It is therefore a network initiative, geographically distributed in several UPM Colleges. Below are some illustrative figures that give an idea of the size and potential of μe-UPM.
• A headcount of over 200 researchers
• Around 20 research groups in different areas of specialization
• Four UPM Colleges involved
• Catalog of more than 60 patents
• Infrastructure and equipment worth in excess of 100 Million Euros
• >1000 m2 in clean rooms for microelectronic manufacturing
These numbers make the UPM Microelectronics Initiative the largest center in the Spanish academia dedicated to microelectronics, optoelectronics and semiconductor technologies.

Centers involved

The μe-UPM initiative has been promoted by several UPM research centers with a long, solid, and consolidated track record in different aspects of microelectronics. μe-UPM seeks to ensure that collaboration between different centers produces a synergistic effect that transcends the limits of each entity alone. By coming together, these centers can combine resources, knowledge, and experience to address more impactful challenges and achieve goals that would be difficult to achieve individually. This synergy manifests itself in various forms, from the optimization of resources, the maximization of the impact of educational or research programs, and even the creation of support networks. Ultimately, μe-UPM is intended to not only strengthen the centers and institutes involved, but also benefit the microelectronics community they serve, promoting broader and more sustainable development.
