The UPM forum “15-Minute City & Health”, framed within the project “Accessibility and planning for the 15-minute city” held its second edition on 18, 19 and 20 October at the School of Architecture of Madrid, focusing this time on the planning of close, lively and healthy neighbourhoods in General Urban Development Plans, Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans and the Spanish Urban Agenda.
The forum consisted of three days of presentations by fourteen experts and professionals in the field of urban planning. Thanks to their participation, many highly relevant issues were addressed during the different sessions in the field of urban planning and sustainability objectives. Topics such as the different tools, strategies and visions within the paradigm of the city of proximity or citizen participation and collaboration in urban design and planning, also covering different urban scales and contexts of the Spanish geography – from urban centres of less than 5,000 inhabitants, as in the case of Goián, to metropolitan areas such as Barcelona – from which we were able to learn about the various barriers and opportunities encountered along the way.
In addition to the presentations, the forum included two workshop sessions, in which technicians from the city councils, teachers, researchers and professionals from different fields shared their different perspectives and professional experiences on the planning of the city of proximity. The methodology of each of the workshops was developed specifically for the context of this UPM forum in collaboration with the Technical University of Munich (TUM). This methodology being fundamental tool that facilitated the exchange of knowledge and opinions among the participants.
