We are part of the Biomaterials Lab at the Center for Biomedical Technology, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain. Our research focuses on understanding the relationships interlinking genetics, cell internal ordering, biophysical properties and cell function: What happens when cells are deformed by mechanical forces? How do cell mechanical properties shape cellular functions? Cell mechanical properties are particularly important for cancer progression, cell differentiation, immune activation and treatments. Can we use our understanding of cell mechanical properties to better diagnose / treat?
In particular we study the impact of mechanical properties on aging-related changes in T cells and its relationship with immunosenescence from a physics and a biology standpoint, developing orignal technologies for acute control and sensing of the mechanical and chemical environment.
