Class at ETSI Camino Canales y Puertos

Thanks to Paola Bianucci, a PDI colleague from ETSI Caminos Canales y Puertos. During the course on pollution in urban environments in which she participates. She was able to explain to her students the Lime4Health project in a session dedicated to air pollution.

This type of action promotes interest in university colleagues, students and professors, who can implement these issues in their future work and study environments.

It is very important for the project to promote awareness and dissemination of the topics of study. In addition to promoting participation among specialists from other disciplines with which there are points of coincidence, as is, in this case, air pollution in urban areas.

Seminar 1-2023. OSMAN Guidelines presentation on healthy housing.

During the online conferences organised by OSMAN (Observatorio de Salud y Medio Ambiente de Andalucía), the “II Online presentation of the OSMAN healthy housing guidelines” was included.

Among the actions carried out by the OSMAN is the preparation of these thematic guides that update scientific knowledge in various areas of interest, and recommend actions for professionals and citizens, thus facilitating the change of practices and the transfer of knowledge.
On this occasion, the latest guides published on “Viviendas Saludables. Criterios y recomendaciones para mejorar las condiciones de habitabilidad de nuestros hogares”.

During the online session, members of our Lime4Health team (Ester Higueras, Javier Neila and Mar Barbero) presented, as authors of these guidelines, evidence and recommendations to improve the habitability conditions of our homes, as members of the ABIO (Arquitectura Bioblimática en un Entorno Sostenible) research group.

Taking advantage of the importance and direct relationship with the subject that concerns us from the Lime4Health project, during the intervention of our main researcher, Mar Barbero, on healthy materials and coatings, reference was made to this project, taking the results obtained in schools as support and evidence of the need to take these parameters into account when improving the habitability of our homes.

Monitoring campaigns begins!

With the onset of the cold snap in Madrid on 6 February, we started the monitoring campaign in the Primary Education Centres that are part of the project.

For two-week period, we will visit one centre per day to carry out field work to collect data. This, together with the continuous data measurements, will allow us to know, in detail, what is the starting point of each of the classrooms for the future phases of the research.

Different parameters will be evaluated to know the IAQ (indoor air quality) of the classrooms and the influence of both building materials and user’s habits. To be exact, we will measure:

CO2
Temperature
Relative Humidity
PM 0.3 particles (< 0.3 μm)
Particulate matter PM 1 (< 1 μm)
PM 2.5 particles (< 2.5 μm)
Ultra fine particles (< 0.1 μm)
VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds)
Pollen
