Weixing Qiu
Supervisors: Prof. José G. Gutiérrez-Ch and Prof. Rafael Jiménez
Summary: Weixing is a visiting PhD student in Geotechnical Engineering from Central South University in China. He received a grant from the Guangzhou government (Leadership Office of the Oversea Study Program of Guangzhou “Elite Project” (Grant No. JY202338)) to study as a visiting doctoral student at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. The current study is creep deformation of soft rock. He is using the DEM + RPT approach developed in our Research Group to simulate the displacement of the surrounding rock in the tunnel excavation. Numerical results reproduce well real tunnel convergences and the developed model are validated using field monitoring data from a tunnel case study.
Yufang Wu
Supervisors: Prof. José G. Gutiérrez-Ch and Prof. Rafael Jiménez
Summary: Yufang is a visiting PhD student in Geotechnical Engineering from Guangxi University in China. She has been awarded a scholarship from the China Scholarship Council (Grant No. 202406660023) to visit Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) for 12 months. As a visiting student in our Research Group, her research focuses on simulating the impact of groundwater on tunnel excavation using numerical modelling.
Pingting Liu
Supervisors: Prof. José G. Gutiérrez-Ch and Prof. Rafael Jiménez
Summary: Pingting is a visiting PhD student in Geotechnical Engineering from Central South University in China. She received a grant from Central South University to visit Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) for 6 months. As a visiting student in our Research Group, her research mainly focuses on the slope stability analysis and comprehensive resilience evaluation of mine slopes.
