Sergio Esteban Romero  is a Ph.D. student under the supervision of Fernando Fernández-Martínez at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), Spain. He received his master’s degree from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid in Signal Theory and Machine Learning for Big Data in 2023. He developed both his Bachelor’s and Master’s theses with the Speech Technology and Machine Learning Group (THAU), applying advanced NLP techniques for conversational agents and toxicty detection. Furthermore, he participated in the Alexa Prize SGC 5 in 2023 as part of the THAURUS team representing THAU group.

Sergio is currently investigating the recognition of posture, gestures, and actions for modeling human behavior and non-verbal language. The aim of these technologies is to enhance communication and understanding between people and machines, enabling a more effective and satisfying user experience.
