Iván Martín-Fernández is a Ph.D. student under the supervision of Fernando Fernández-Martínez and Manuel Gil-Martín at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), Spain. He received his double Master’s degree from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid in Telecommunications Engineering and Signal Theory and Machine Learning for Big Data in 2024. He developed both his Bachelor’s and Master’s theses with the Speech Technology and Machine Learning Group (THAU), applying advanced computer vision and NLP techniques for narrative genre prediction in short films and memorability characterization of short home videos, thus laying the foundation for his current PhD studies. These works led to his first published paper, which he presented in September 2023 in Orléans, France.

Iván is currently focused on modeling aspects of subjective human perception through multimedia AI systems. In particular, He is currently studing the use of advanced computational models that mimic aspects of human perception: including memorability, social perception and ad decoding. This will help create better multimedia systems in the fields of social media, marketing and education, among others. This area of research involves knowledge from different fields, such as computer vision, deep learning, natural language processing and audio processing.
