The Impulso Verde building, designed by ETSAMadera professors and PEMADE-USC researchers as part of the European Life Lugo+Biodinámico project, is a finalist in the Advanced Architecture Awards 2021.

Impulso Verde will be the first public building in Galicia to be built entirely with local wood, thus demonstrating that technological and sustainable construction using local, natural and renewable materials is possible. In particular, two of the most abundant species in Galicia are used through their application in structural technology products: Radiata pine for the manufacture of CLT panels and linear laminated wood elements; and Eucalyptus globulus, one of the species with the highest mechanical performance in Europe, with which an innovative structural lattice system has been developed for the roof of the building.

Impulso Verde’s energy strategy combines the use of natural light, passive building principles, high efficiency equipment and a comprehensive management system (BMS). Photovoltaic production and the use of biomass for heating and DHW will enable the building to achieve a near-zero annual CO2 emissions balance.

The building will be Green certified and will be the first Spanish building with FSC project certification.
On behalf of the ETSAM, the architect Antonio José Lara Bocanegra, in charge of the project, participated with the collaboration of the architects Almudena Majano Majano, José Luis Gómez Royuela and Luis Lozano Bodeguero.

The Advanced Architecture Awards 2021 are intended to recognise the work, leadership and effort of those companies and professionals who are committed to transformation, disruption and innovation. Also for those who apply technology and digitalisation to improve building processes.
