Tandem Solar Sustainable Efficiency
The TANDEM project develops low-cost, high-efficiency perovskite-silicon tandem solar cells, optimizing PERC technology, reducing critical raw materials, and scaling production for sustainable industrial adoption.
Latest news
Tandem PV technology can be important for re-establishing a European technology lead.

GUNAM spun-out from Middle East Technical university in 2021 as Türkiye’ national Center for Solar Energy Research and Applications. In this project, bottom structure TOPCon layer will be developed at GUNAM PV pilot line (GPVL) with 100 wafer/h processing capacity using industrial fabrication tools and precursors. Additionally, GUNAM has an outdoor testing that will be used to test the TANDEM mini modules.

SALD B.V. is a SME based in Eindhoven the Netherlands, that builds and develops equipment for spatial atomic layer deposition (sALD) processes. SALD will contribute to the project with its expertise on atomic layer deposition of buffer layers (the layers protecting the top of the perovskite cell against damage from a sputtered top electrode) and the interfacial recombination junction.

TNO has a long track record in the development and industrialization of high-efficiency silicon cell and module technology, and a leading position in development and scaling up of semi-transparent perovskite cells and modules. In this project, together with SALD, TNO will add the perovskite cell stack on the silicon bottom cell half-fabricates and finalize the tandem cell. TNO will also produce mini-modules from these cells.
