This event has been a response to the large demand of information gathered in the recent years.

We have organized the first event of its kind in Madrid focusing on Space Mining and Space resource as an answer to the question: Why now? It is indeed a relevant question to think about.

The Mining of Space Resources looks like it starts to exit science fiction circles and enter the field of patents, academic discussions and even private investors. In this sense, the School of Mines of the “Universidad Politécnica de Madrid” has decided to follow the lead of other universities such as the School of Mining of Colorado (USA) of Angel Aboud-Madrid and provide a program on this discipline. In April 2021, the first course of 1 ECTS was created by professors Luis F. Gonzalez-Portillo and Kevin Feranndez-Cosials, with the main goal of creating a research and formative line to overtake the future. Expectation grew, new collaborations between the industry and the academia arose and here we are.

The event is supposed to be a compendium of research and teaching in academia, technology enabling companies, Venture capital investors, space law and field regulators mixed together to present a photograph of the State of the field in a compact way.
