What is JEDI?

JEDI (Joint European Degree Label in Engineering) is co-funded by the Erasmus+ program to pilot a joint European degree label aimed at recognizing the value of innovative transnational learning experiences and increasing the visibility, attractiveness, and reputation, both in Europe and beyond, of joint programs provided by alliances of European higher education institutions.

JEDI contributes to:

– The exploration, testing and optimization of the relevance, value and feasibility of the European criteria proposed that aims to maximise the attractiveness and potential impact of a joint European degree label.

– The delivery of a prototype label that will facilitate the development and implementation of joint degrees in Europe.

The prototype of the JEDI label will be a demonstrator whose main impact surely lies more in the potential for transposing the label and the experience gained to other institutions, alliances and disciplines beyond Engineering.

Approach based on the...

– Interest in increasing the offer of joint degrees in Europe.

– Value of general competencies of Bachelor / Master / PhD engineering.

– Added value of having a clear and attractive label and certificate

– Need for integration of external stakeholders.

– The diversity of profiles and backgrounds doubtlessly needed to address societal challenges with engineering.

– Demand for greater autonomy and simplicity in the management and accreditation of our programs.

– Value of creating a European framework for engineering education, based on European values

– The existence of a well-established European Accreditation Model for Engineering Education (ENAEE’s EUR-ACE Label).

Objectives

– Review of current status of joint degrees.

– Screening of existing joint degrees in Europe.

– Analysis of the relevance, value and feasibility of the set of European criteria.

– Optimisation of the set of European criteria considering European values.

Demonstration of the JEDI label in a set of existing joint degrees.

Collaboration with other HEIs not participating in this project and that could be early adopters for the JEDI label.

– Joint reflection on the value of labelling for students and employers

– Develop a prospective view over the 10 years to come about possible options to define an ambitious framework for European engineering education

A label for joint European degrees will help to guarantee the European added value that these programmes bring.

The project expects to synthesize an updated review of national accreditation approaches and educational requirements in engineering diplomas.
