IN4SOC EXPERIENCE

Title:

“Cellulosic membranes with incorporated cellulose nanoparticles for Oil Microdroplet collection in water: a new approach”

Organization:

FCT NOVA

Short description:

I started this project while I was developing my Master’s Degree Dissertation. In order to conciliate both, I thought in ways where I could join my Dissertation theme and Socio-Civic competences and some of the SDGs. My Dissertation theme focuses on finding new and more sustainable ways to collect oil from the water. And so, the parallelism between the theme and some of the SDGs was easy to do. Regarding the socio-civic competences, I think that a self-reflection is needed, in order for each on of us, to conclude which are the competences that required more work for us to improve in society.
Knowledge areas:

Materials Engineering
SDGS:

SDG#11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, SDG#13: Climate Action, SDG#14: Life Below Water
Competences:

Personal competences: – Ability to critically reflect – Ability to express your own viewpoint

Social competences: – Constructive collaboration with others Learning to learn competences: – Establishing a problem-solving attitude

Citizenship competences: – Support for sustainable lifestyles – Promotion of culture of peace and non-violence – Readiness to take responsibility for the environment – Critical thinking – Interest in humanities
About the experience:

Regarding the SDGs, it was very interesting to realize how my Dissertation can have a positive impact for the Global Goals. Regarding the socio-civic competences, I don’t feel that I worked on them that much, hence I did not have the opportunity to socialize that much with other people, because of the pandemic. However, just the fact that I had to think about them, I feel like it was a good bridge to my development in the future. Overall, I am very satisfied with this project and I believe that it was good experience.
