Introduction
Using a graphics tablet and the appropriate software is possible to write and manage comfortably maths documents. Next, I give some indications about the best software applications for this purpose for different situations.
Windows Vista and Windows 7 users
These both operating systems include handwriting functionalities that can be used by other third-party software. Some interesting examples are:
- Windows Journal: for basic handwriting of notes.
- PowerPoint, Word, OneNote: handwriting notes are possible over the text, figures, and shapes. [Link]
Windows XP users
Unlike the previous operating systems, this one lacks of Windows Journal and the basic capabilities to use handwriting functions with the products of Microsoft Office. In this case, we can alternatively use
- Evernote: its handwriting functionality is similar to the Windows Journal one. One disadvantage is that it is not possible to include images to make annotations over them.
- Adobe Illutrator: very powerful program that allows all kind of advanced operations such as the annotation of images, importation of pdfs, importation vectorial objects, application of effects on the handwritten notes, etc. One possible disadvantage could be that the complexity is much greater that other programs as PowerPoint. - Adobe Acrobat: allows to directly annotate pdf documents.
Of course, all these posibilities are also available for Windows Vista and Windows 7.
