The Basics of Construction Products in a Circular Economy: from End-of-Life Products to Secondary Raw Materials. November 2018.

The objective of the course is to increase the awareness of students on the choices for a more circular economy in the construction sector. Enhance the student’s transversal skills to actively learn, participate and contribute in an interdisciplinary context.
Programme:
- Circular Economy and actions to fight climate change
- Construction and demolition waste (CDW) in the European Union. Framework, Directives, Communications, etc.
- Design and building deconstruction for an efficient recovery of products
- Climate‐change impacts and mitigation measures in the construction sector
- Secondary materials characterization and quality criteria
- Students develop a coursework on circular economy applied to construction products, which ends with an infographic and an oral defence summarizing the results
Prerequisites:
- Interest in more sustainable approaches
- General knowledge of the construction sector
- Participative attitude

The objective of the course is to increase the awareness of students of the choices for a more circular economy in the construction sector.
Programme:
- Construction and demolition waste (CDW) in the European Union. Framework, Directives, Communications, etc.
- Building demolition and decontamination as a requirement for an efficient recovery of products
- Waste fractions, sources, and existing recycling technology
- Business models for the end-of-life of construction products
- CDW characterization
- Secondary materials characterization and quality criteria
Prerequisites:
- Interest in more sustainable approaches
- General knowledge of the construction sector
- Participative attitude
