DESCRIPTION:
- Botanickel’s challenge? To produce bio-extracted nickel from plants with the incredible capacity to hyperaccumulate this metal to sustainably supply Europe’s stainless steel production! But to meet this challenge, we need your help!
- To ensure its development, Botanickel is looking for an Experimental Technician in Plant Breeding, who would like to actively contribute to the creation of new plant varieties for the development of an innovative and environmentally-friendly agricultural activity.
MISSIONS:
- Seconded to the teams at Econick, Botanickel’s long-standing partner and shareholder, this position will report directly to the Econick Manager and the Head of the Selection Department. You will be responsible for:
- Prepare and set up selection trials in greenhouses (sowing, transplanting and installation of innovative experimental equipment).
- Contribute to the selection of hyperaccumulator plants (search for traits of interest, phenology monitoring, phenotyping, identification and crossing of remarkable individuals, seed collection).
- Build up and manage a collection of seeds and plants, optimising their conservation.
- Carry out the measurements needed to monitor selection trials (taking and conditioning soil and plant samples, analysing elemental concentrations by X-ray fluorescence, measuring chlorophyll content, etc.).
- Collect and format data (Google docs, Excel).
- Participate in the maintenance of selection trials with all the technical staff of the greenhouse (application of amendments, control of weeds, pests and diseases, adjustment of climatic conditions: irrigation, light, temperature, humidity).
- Work on Speed Breeding technique and participate in the development of complementary tools adapted to breeding projects.
- Follow technological developments in the field of plant experimentation (digital, imaging, etc.) and adapt them to Botanickel’s specific needs.
- Provide technical support to teams in the field, with possible travel abroad.
- Write experimental protocols.
- Participate in the management and development of the laboratory (stocks, equipment).
PROFILE:
- Education: You have a degree in phytotechnology, plant biology, genetics or similar (Bac +2 minimum).
- Experience: Initial experience of plant management in a greenhouse or a laboratory is highly appreciated.
- Knowledge of plant biology, genetics, breeding and biostatistics required.
- Proficiency in office automation tools, in particular Excel and Google Suite.
- Taste for field and laboratory work.
- Curiosity, organization and scientific rigour.
- Autonomy, sense of responsibility, team spirit and good communication skills.
- Good verbal and written skills in French and English.
- International travel and missions to be planned.
- Preferred skills: knowledge of plant pathology and use of statistical processing tools such as Rstudio.

- Gross annual salary: Depends on level of experience
- Trial period: 2 months renewable
