Ethics as a Compass? Navigating Complexity in Organizational Engineering

Prof. Dr. Markus Beckmann

Abstract:

Organizational engineering faces the daunting challenge of managing ever-increasing complexity. Integrating ethical considerations may add another layer of complexity, prompting the question: Is it worth it? What unique value can an ethical perspective bring to the table when addressing organizational complexity? This keynote will engage with these critical questions by using an ethical lens to examine the role of mindsets, tools, and partnerships in organizational engineering. The key idea is that, paradoxically, incorporating ethics can help mitigate complexity rather than exacerbate it. However, does this idea hold true? The session will conclude with a call for audience discussion and critique—an invitation to address ethics and organizational complexity together.
