MOOC LEARNING OUTCOMES

The first Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) offered by the University of Virginia was a comprehensive course on personal branding. This course was not only impressive but also enlightening, providing valuable insights into the process of building a personal digital brand. The course content helped on how to build a reputable identity in the digital world such as Twitter. It demonstrated that building a personal brand is indeed achievable, and it outlined the necessary steps to do so.

In the course, I was introduced to the concept of the 80/20 rule, a principle that is crucial for effectively navigating various social media platforms. This rule, often referred to as the Pareto Principle, suggests that 80% of outcomes come from 20% of causes. In the context of social media, it implies that a significant portion of engagement is driven by a small fraction of one’s content or efforts.

The course also included a personality test, which I found to be an enlightening experience. This test allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of my personal traits and how they influence my interactions in the digital world.

Furthermore, the course provided important insights into digital privacy, a topic of increasing relevance in today’s interconnected world. It emphasized the importance of safeguarding personal information and maintaining privacy while interacting online. The knowledge and skills I acquired from this course significantly enhanced my digital identity and personal learning environment. I was able to refine my online presence and create a more impactful and authentic digital identity.

The second Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) offered by the Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) focused on the Circular Economy. This course provided a wealth of insights into how presumed waste can be transformed into reusable products, a key principle of the circular economy. One of the most striking examples discussed in the course was the approach taken by Philips, a multinational conglomerate. Philips has implemented a strategy of reacquiring all used products. This innovative practice not only reduces waste but also allows the company to repurpose and reuse components, thereby creating a closed-loop system.

The business model underlying this approach was explored in depth during the course. It was fascinating to see how such a model can be both economically viable and environmentally sustainable. The course demonstrated that with the right strategies and practices, businesses can contribute to a circular economy while also achieving their financial objectives.

Overall, the MOOC offered by TU Delft was a valuable resource for understanding the principles and practices of the circular economy.

MOOC I & PLE

Hello everyone,

I followed Introduction to Personal Branding MOOC on Coursera, and I really enjoyed this experience.

This course helped me to a get better understanding of new concepts and the way to devolop it such as:

  • Personal branding , what it needs, and the importance of it.
  • Taking advantage of the different social Media platforms with 80/20 rule.
  • Failure is a part of your journey,  how should you deal with it.
  • Reputation Management.
  • Your digital privacy and how to protect it.

I also took Myers-Briggs test but I think the questions were few and not enough to give the accurate answer to whether you are an introvert or extrovert.
The course focused on Twitter, but I think  if it focused on LinkedIn, for example, it would be more useful.

To link this with my personal learning environment PLE, it reminded me to add Coursera to my learning tools, it also made me consider new connection apps to separate my  personal life from the professional one. Speaking about Connection sector, This course made me aware of the importance of  the personal branding and use it to promote myself to get the special opportunity that matches my special competences and skills and this the goal of connection and showing what you have.

MOOC + PLE learning outcomes

The MOOC about personal branding was very enriching and enlighting. It gave me some new insight into the way of self-promotion for example. About the different channels that could be used but also that you should not use more than 2-3 platforms at the same time. Trying to update your profile or share information with your followers every week could make you stand out so much more. Especially the 80/20 rule is something I will try to remember and apply to my own personal branding. We should not be ashamed or think we have too much self-confidence when you post your accomplishments on social media. It is something you achieved and you should be proud of. I will try to use LinkedIn much more to share my personal achievements and academic developments.

In regards to the PLE, I did not get to know that many new platforms to use. I am pretty happy with my current PLE and added a few interesting new platforms to my objective PLE, but there are no major changes. Just the way how I will use these PLE platforms has changed a little bit after this MOOC course.

MOOC course

Hello everyone,

I’m excited to share that I’ve successfully completed my first MOOC course on personal branding from the University of Virginia. Attached above is my certificate to show this accomplishment.

As I progressed through the different modules, I realized that I’ve already implemented some of the tips suggested by the instructor, especially in updating my LinkedIn profile over the past months. However, I acknowledge that I could share more about my achievements, and that’s an area I plan to focus on in the future. While the idea of expressing my opinions on platforms like Twitter doesn’t appeal to me, I appreciate the concept and find the LinkedIn interface more suitable for my preferences.

The notion of having a personal board resonated with me. Reflecting on it, I realized I already have a similar support system in place, with some members changing over the years but maintaining a consistent core. I hadn’t thought of labeling them as a “personal board,” but it makes perfect sense.

Regarding personality tests, I’ve had mixed feelings about them. Every time I take one, even with a year between assessments, I get slightly different results. Although they generally fall within the same categories, the evolving nature of the outcomes is something I’ve noticed. Nevertheless, I acknowledge their value in helping to understand one’s abilities and how to best utilize them, especially in a team setting.

The course was well-designed and interesting. The instructor highlighted certain points that I’ll look into more deeply as I transition into my professional life next year.

Have a nice day!

MOOC Learning Outcome

Hello everyone,

I have completed sucessfully the first MOOC on personal branding. While I was happy with my PLE and don’t feel like I should further improve it, I wanted to highlight a few elements I learned.

First of all, it was nice to have reminders about things I knew before, the importance of having strong passwords, the Myers-Briggs personality types tests and the importance of a numerical presence.

What I discovered was the depth of “personal branding”. I totally ignored that we could define personal board members or mission statement and I will look into it in the future. Overall I found interesting the importance of personal branding for leadership.

Finally, I carried out the suggested personality test but the questions were too few and creative I think a test more developed as the 16 personalities test would be more relevant.

Majd MUSTAFA’s MOOC I completion

The personal branding course has been very informative as it helped me to develop a better understanding of a solid personal brand. I mostly enjoyed learning how to separate personal life from professional life on social networks, which is really important when dealing with a large audience. For example, I usually post some guitar-playing videos on YouTube but this has nothing to do with my academic and professional life. So, having the knowledge to choose the right platform to share my thoughts is very useful. Besides, I learned about the 80/20 rule which is excellent for sustaining the development of my personal brand rather than posting stuff for entertainment.

Another idea that triggered me is that I have always felt ashamed of posting my career development on social networks because not everyone has the opportunity to achieve such things. However, how should I expect people to appreciate my skills without sharing them?

As for my PLE, I thought LinkedIn was the only platform for professional networking, but from now on I will start using Twitter to share and exchange professional thoughts to grow my network.

Ultimately, this course was insightful and full of ideas that made me see things from a different point of view, develop my skills, and understand myself.

MOOC: “Introduction to Personal Branding”, Learning Experience

The MOOC course, “Introduction to Personal Branding,” in Coursera by the University of Virginia was thought-provoking and insightful. The following are my key takeaways when it comes to personal branding;

  • Be genuine and authentic
  • Be a master of your craft
  • Tell a story
  • Be consistent
  • Be ready to fail
  • Live your brand
  • Create a positive impact

Taking this course has been a transformative experience for my professional and career journey. This course equipped me with a comprehensive understanding of the principles behind personal branding, emphasizing the importance of cultivating an authentic professional identity and having a mission statement and personal board of directors to guide and advise me in my professional journey.  It also highlighted the importance of digital security and reputation management.

As an enthusiast of sustainability and circular economy, I believe that the skillset and insights I obtained in this course will help me to build a strong personal brand in this field.  Through the lens of personal branding, it helped me to visualize how to leverage my Personal Learning Environment (PLE) and Professional Digital Identity as an ecosystem to learn, grow engage, network, connect, and build a digital presence that aligns with my career aspirations.

However, on the social media platform, the course mainly focused on Twitter, “X”. I would recommend the addition of a practical guide on how to establish and build a professional brand on Linkedln which is the mostly used platform for professional purposes.

Lastly don’t forget, “The 80/20 Rule”. Put 80% of content online for the interest of your audience and 20% for self-promotion.

MOOC I-PERSONAL BRANDING

The Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on Personal Branding was really beneficial to me in so many ways. I gained a deeper understanding of the importance of personal branding and its impact on career development. The combinations of the short video lectures as well as the readings and quizzes kept the content well engaging and relevant.

Through this course, I gained an insight on how I can strategically position myself in the professional world, enhance my visibility, and stand out in a competitive job market. It gave me the significance of having my own identity in the digital world and also got to know about digital piracy and how often I needed to check that. The short feedbacks from both instructors and peers were constructive and insightful, contributing to my continuous learning and improvement. The flexibility of the online format allowed me to learn at my own pace while still maintaining a sense of accountability through the mini assignments and discussions.

Now, in relation to my newly improved PLE, the MOOC Course on Personal Branding has enhanced your Personal Learning Environment, by integrating the knowledge and skills gained from it into my overall PLE strategy. I can now create a holistic and personalized learning environment that not only enhances my personal brand but also supports my continuous growth and development.

MOOC : Personal Branding

The course Personal Branding in Coursera by University of Virginia was really interesting.

Some points I learned and will try to inculcate in real life:

  1. MBTI : Personality Type – Myers-Briggs : Helps to get to know oneself better, self reflection
  2. My 3 Words – Serves as a lighthouse to guide you on creating your personal brand and digital identity
  3. Digital Privacy – How to put controls and filter my online presence

Future wise, I would try to take some of the other courses related to branding, to develop more the idea and to align all my social media. Currently I am just using one for my professional presence which is LinkedIn, but maybe I can add another one to make it more holistic.

For my PLE, I believe I have all the required applications, it is a matter of refining and curating the content inside. For example, in my LinkedIn profile, I would follow the suggestion of updating at least twice a week/max 5 times a week. Currently, the updated PLE I posted prior already contains most of the things I need and would be helpful in promoting my personal brand.
