Adela Salas-Ruiz

Adela Salas-Ruiz is an Architect by the ETSAM-UPM, expert in Basic Habitability in Precarious Human Settlements. Her research line is focused on the development and the implementation of low-cost building systems in precarious human settlements, addressing both the development of building materials, which are adapted to the environment of precariousness, and the design of constructive solutions for low-cost buildings.  Previously, she has collaborated with projects based on data collection methods, for the identification of slum dwellers needs in Sierra Leone and their urbanistic and political assessment, addressing different stages of the process, such as the design of data selection matrices, the definition and design of participatory activities, or the realisation of land mapping and the gathering information process. She is member of the UPM Platform on Refugees since its inception in 2018. She has participated in the design of the NAUTIA methodology  and its implementation in the Shimelba refugee camp.
