BRIDGE OF SAN PABLO

| Sin comentarios

The purpose of this paper is to reflect on the influence of the current bridge of San Pablo, on the perception of an observer of the environment or cityscape.

It is a beam bridge crossing the river Huécar in the city of Cuenca, built in 1902 iron and wood and a length of 60 meters. Sometimes we refer to the current bridge, because it really was built in 1589 of stone, but because successive snowfall collapsed.

From my point of view the material used in the bridge (iron, painted red and wood), breaks with the historical surrounding environment.  This is a landscape  where the  fundamental elements (the hanging houses) are made of stone, flowing from the rocks of the slopes, while the bridge is of a completely different material, without similarities in appearance, texture, color,  does not exist view a simple feature in common.

I think if the work that has been built with the aim of saving the mouth of the river Huécar and communicate the Convent of San Pablo in the town had been stone, as it was originally, establish a related environment, with more interaction with the rustic and historic setting of the hanging houses and the city of Cuenca in general.

Then I attached a picture of the current bridge, made a personal visit to the city.

The following links are some pictures of the old bridge, as a stone.

One can clearly observe the differences from the aesthetic and constructive point of view of both structures.

In addition, attached in the literature other links with images of bridges of stone, so you can observe their good practice.
