It has developed a model for estimating the market share of the gypsum recycling systems in a given country. This model can be used as an analytical tool to ease recyclers, manufacturers of plasterboard, national authorities and also the European Commission with the identification of the causes that limit the rate of the recycling of gypsum waste in a particular country as well as the solutions that lead to improve the situation. It have been defined a total of six factors which combine in a mathematical equation determine the share of recycled gypsum and the amount of gypsum in which neither recyclers nor plasterboard industries in Europe can influence directly. The six defined factors have been grouped into four categories: technical, economical, legal and environmental.
Finally, the model has been revised to make it applicable to any other type of waste from construction and demolition (RCD).
